This was the first talk for our Wyldlife club in 2011. For some kids this could have been the first exposure to God. I figured from now on I would upload whatever talk I give to here. Feedback is appreciated.
Hey there,
My name is Devon and every week at the end of club we will meeting like this. This portion of club will be taken more seriously because what we have to talk about is very important. Today we are going to focus on “being real”. So what does it mean to”be real” ? For me it means honesty. It means truth. You ever talk to someone and left saying “I’m glad that they were real with me.” Well if not hopefully you will today. We as leaders want to be “real” with you. We are not afraid to tell you the honesty about ourselves which is that we have all made mistakes and at many points have made messes of our lives. But, we are all different because something made a difference on us. That something is God. All of us are here because God and the message of his son Jesus has had a huge life changing impact on our lives. Such a strong impact that more than anything we want you to hear about it.
So why God? Why believe in this mysterious being?
Well in this book called the Bible (which we will be reading from for the rest of the year) it states in a book called Psalms that:
“The ways of God are without fault. The Lord’s word’s (which can be found all through this book) are pure. He is a shield (he protects) those who trust him. God is my protection. He makes my way free from fault. You give me a better way to live, so I live as you want me to.” Pslams 18:30-32,36
“he gives us a better way to live” I don’t know about you guys but when someone says that there is a better way to live I’m all for that. Sign me up!
I have discovered this better way to live and let me tell ya It has done so much for my life. And yes I still make mistakes and yes times are still hard but God has always helped me through them and brought me out stronger on the other side.
The Bible says that this guy Jesus is “the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over ALL creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together.”
-Collosions 1:15-17
Wow. So this invisible God was made visible through this guy named Jesus. We will be talking a lot about Jesus in the clubs to follow. In the Bible Jesus says this:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.” -John 14:6
Jesus is the way, THE TRUTH, and the life.
Jesus is “real”.
You are entering a time in your lives of exposure. Meaning over the next few years you and your friends are going to start learning more about things like drinking and smoking and partying. Well what we want to do is expose you to TRUTH, and if you keep these things we talk about active in your life, you will have a wisdom and an understanding that will help you make the right decisions when faced with times that are tough, when you are asked to do things you know are not right, things that would put you in hard situations.
God gives us a better way to live. So let’s learn more about that.
