In the second account of Creation found in Genesis two, the authors of Scripture reveal that Creation is incomplete without the female. The only part of creation that was “not good” was the absence of the woman. It is not until God created woman that God rested. Is this because God was restless without the fullness of their image in Creation? Did the feminine give them the peace they desired in the cosmos?
There are no gender roles in the creation story. Rather both Adam and Eve are naked, and without a sense of shame. Neither is seen as superior. Neither is aware of their sexual differences. It has neither been discovered nor expressed. They are united. Of one bone. Of one flesh.
They are like God, yet free from the knowledge of good and evil.
