Not my own.

“We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

At noon darkness covered the land. The sun stopped shining.

“Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

Then the breath that would change the world.

Death.

“Surely this man was the Son of God.”

“You are not your own; you were bought at a price.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

God, I often forget what has happened on my behalf. I live each day dishonoring grace. I live life like nothing happened. I live for this world instead of the next. I cling to things that don’t matter. I do things I know I shouldn’t and don’t do the things I know I should. I give myself glory instead of you. I judge people. I struggle with pride. I struggle with lust. I know the right things and try to be good and yet, I fall short.

Is this what you died for?

What you left heaven for?

What you healed people for?

What you raised the dead for?

What you were betrayed for?

What you were spat at for?

What you were beaten for?

What you were mocked for?

What you were crowned with thorns for?

What your hands were nailed for?

What your feet were nailed for?

What your side was stabbed for?

What your cross was raised for?

What your blood was spilled for?

What your last breath was for?

Do I honor your death?

Do I live for your sacrifice?

You say that you came so that we could have life, and life to the full.

God, why do we settle for anything less?

Savior I come

Quiet my soul

Remember

Redemptions hill

Where Your blood was spilled

For my ransom

Everything I once held dear

I count it all as lost…

You say I must die to my former way of life to live this life to the full.

Have I lost my life?

Have I changed at all?

Have I become an image of you God?

Do I just follow your rules to seem right or because I love you?

“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”-1 Corinthians 13:1-3

You said “If you love me, keep my commands.”

Your disciples reminded us:

“Those who say “I know him,” (Those who call themselves Christians,) but do not do what he commands are liars, and the truth is not in them. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”-1 John 2:4-6

Is the truth in me?

Lead me to the cross

Where Your love poured out

Bring me to my knees

Lord I lay me down

Rid me of myself

I belong to You

Lead me,

lead me to the cross

Lord, give me strength to live as Jesus did.

Give me radical love. Give me strength to do what you say.

Lead me not into temptation. Remind me that scripture can help me defend myself as it helped Christ defend himself when he was tempted by Satan. Remind me of how faithful you are when I am discouraged.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to us all. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will provide you a way out so that you can endure it.”- 1 Corinthians 10:13

Lord, help me find the way out. I am weak.

Point me to your victory.

Point me to your cross.

Point me to the empty grave.

Remind me that I was bought at a price.

That I am not my own.

That my body is a residing place for your Spirit.

Your Spirit who leads me out of temptation. Who delivers me from evil.

You were as I

Tempted and trialed

Human

The word became flesh

Bore my sin and death

Now you’re risen

God, give me that daily reminder that my sin was present when your Son died.

That my sin was on the cross.

That it was love that held Jesus on the cross.

That it was not my love for Him, but His love for me.

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10

God, thank you for allowing a way for righteousness.

For your great exchange. For a grace that would never be matched.

For my debt paid.

For my sins washed white as snow.

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”-2 Corinthians 5:21

Lead me to your heart.

Your perfect heart.

May I be holy as you are holy.

May I love as you love.

May I suffer for you.

May I carry my cross daily.

May I deny myself.

Carry my cross…

To your heart

To your heart

Lead me to your heart

Lead me to your heart

God, help me put on your armor. Help me run the good race.

Help me endure my present weakness. Help me in this ministry. Help me to not lose heart. Help me focus on the life that awaits me.

“Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” Since we have that same spirit of faith, we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you to himself.  All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

-2 Corinthians 4

God, remind me that these troubles I am going through don’t matter.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Lead me to your peace.

God, help me love you more. Help me go and make disciples. Equip me to reveal your truth. Help me endure those who persecute me. Those who call me crazy. Those who try and focus on this world. Those who try to tame me. Those who try to turn me from you. Those who curse me. Those who try to stumble me. Help me help them.

Lord, help me be a light to a dark world.

Lord, shine through me.

I am yours.

I am yours.

For all my days, I am yours.

I am not my own.

I am not my own.

I am not my own.

I was bought at a price.

And that price was your death.

I am your servant.

Not my will, but Yours be done.

Lead me to the cross

Where Your love poured out

Bring me to my knees

Lord I lay me down

Rid me of myself
I belong to You
Lead me, lead me to the cross.
